Planning Your Electrical Requirements

Identify every item that will require electricity.

Before placing an electrical order, make a complete list of the equipment you intend to use on the stand.

This may include:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Televisions and display screens
  • Monitors and audiovisual equipment
  • Mobile phone and tablet charging points
  • Coffee machines and kettles
  • Display fridges and refrigeration
  • Illuminated cabinets and lightboxes

Check the electrical information supplied with each appliance or item of equipment before selecting the services you require.

Consider How The Stand Will Be Used

Think about how staff and visitors will move around the stand during the exhibition.

Electrical sockets and powered equipment should be positioned so that cables do not create unnecessary obstructions or affect access to furniture, storage areas or display spaces.

How To Plan Your Stand Electrics

Follow these four steps before ordering electrical services.

1. Review Your Stand Layout

Confirm your stand dimensions, open sides, wall positions, furniture layout and planned display areas.

Decide where staff, visitors and equipment will be positioned.

2. List Every Electrical Item

Create a list of every appliance, screen, light and item of equipment requiring an electrical connection.

Include equipment that may only be used occasionally.

3. Choose The Correct Services

Select electrical services appropriate for the equipment you intend to use.

4. Mark Your Stand Plan

Clearly show where every socket, light and powered item should be installed.

Include measurements where exact positioning is important.

Check Equipment Information

Do not select an electrical service based only on the appearance or size of the appliance.

Check the manufacturer’s label, technical information or equipment documentation for the relevant electrical requirements.

Where several items will be connected in the same area, provide details of everything that will be used rather than supplying information for only one appliance.

Specialist Equipment

Some machinery, catering equipment, illuminated displays and specialist demonstration equipment may require additional information before the correct service can be confirmed.

Add Electrics To Your Stand Plan

Clearly identify every socket, powered item and lighting position.

Your stand plan should show where each electrical service is required and what equipment it will serve.

Include measurements from a fixed wall, corner or stand edge where positioning is important. For televisions, lighting and other wall-mounted equipment, also indicate the intended installation height where requested.

Common Exhibition Electrical Services

Electrical products and availability may vary between exhibitions.

Use the descriptions below as general guidance only. Select services from your individual exhibition dashboard or electrical order form and check the specific product details before ordering.

Standard Socket

A standard socket may be suitable for general office equipment, chargers, laptops and other smaller appliances.

Check the equipment requirements before ordering and do not assume one socket will be suitable for several items.

Twin Socket

A twin socket provides two connection points in one position.

It may be useful where two compatible items need power in the same area, subject to the total requirements of the connected equipment.

Floor Power Position

Floor-positioned power may be required where equipment, counters or displays are located away from the stand walls.

The exact position should be clearly identified on your stand plan.

Stand Lighting

Lighting can be used to illuminate wall graphics, display products, counters and important areas of the stand.

Show the preferred position and direction of every light on the stand plan.

Television & AV Power

Televisions, monitors, media players, speakers and other audiovisual equipment normally require a nearby electrical connection.

Consider all connected equipment rather than planning only for the screen itself.

Refrigeration Power

Display fridges, chilled counters and refrigeration equipment should be checked carefully before ordering power.

Provide the equipment information and clearly identify where the unit will be positioned.

Demonstration Equipment

Machinery, product demonstration equipment and specialist appliances may have requirements that differ from general stand equipment.

Supply technical information before ordering so the appropriate service can be confirmed.

Illuminated Displays

Lightboxes, illuminated cabinets, LED signage and other powered displays require both a suitable connection and accurate positioning.

Show the location of the display and any related power supplies on the stand plan.

Specialist Power Requirements

Some larger or specialist equipment may require a service that is not included among the standard electrical options.
